Paediatric Dentistry

Children often require different treatment to adults. They may be anxious for a variety of reasons such as a new unfamiliar environment, strange people, stories heard from friends or their parent’s perception.

At the first appointment we aim to familiarise children with their dentist. We explain the function of the basic dental equipment, tell funny stories, introduce the new subjects and make them comfortable in our clinic. After a basic check up the dentist will discuss continuing oral health care and any necessary treatment with the parents.

A personal treatment plan is based on the individual needs of each child. At the first examination consultation the dentist will determine the next treatment and plan the following steps in order that your child receives the best dental care.

Dental Trauma by children

One out of three children a year suffer from dental trauma. A quick and correct treatment is of the outmost importance for the survival of the affected tooth/teeth.

Each dental trauma is different (http://www.dentaltraumaguide.org/) and requires an individual treatment. In many cases the trauma will affect young patients and teeth with a not completely developed root.

The patient and the parents are mostly tense and worried after the trauma. There are frequently injuries on the lips, tongue and the chin of a child. Therefore, it’s extremely important to calm down all parties and not to miss any details in order to perform the correct emergency treatment. Furthermore, the registration of the details is necessary for the insurance. Finally, each treatment of a dental trauma requires a close yearly follow-up after the primary treatment. The follow-up ensures the treatment outcome and in the case of complications, gives the oppurtunity to take appropriate action.
